Microsoft put up a great ice breaker to share the way they are entering into the tablet space. Good form factor, Windows 8 proposition, and Mobile compatibility. Honestly I'd be the last one to say good, or bad- the form factor seems like a leap of faith. Neil Armstrong had taken a giant step on moon, and this is perhaps that huge.
Microsoft is a Business to Business Enterprise level group, and strategically they have done better focusing on customers (enterprises), Excel products, and Office Software.
Much less on creating consumer led sensation. This is a 10000 Sq Feet perspective. The entry into Surface market is a huge risk, and a leap of faith. A leap of faith on markets such as India, China that define the success of a consumer led initiative.
The great conundrum and opportunity for consumers is the entry into the mobile and tablet space for Microsoft. Apple’s ignorance is Microsoft’s Opportunity. Microsoft uses Surface and makes a market entry, consumer entry to create competitive synergies with Apple, and Google (Android Phones, Ipad).
Digitally mobile optimization, and tablet optimization will influence Google more than what they do with Dell PCs. Who can ignore mobile marketing today.
Strategically speaking markets, and consumers in India seem highly wary of the secret Apple Sauce that makes the products cool, and feel Samsung does a better job pricing wise. Oh chances of buying a Microsoft product in Agra, or Agartala is higher as these people have grown up on Microsoft Office, MSN Messenger and they will give this company a chance to prove their mettle. They live on trust, relationships and hate forced advertising. They don't lust on designs, and they want to use their fingers much less.
'Hopefully the left hand will know what the right hand is doing' at Microsoft.
Yes guys from Redmond need to show what they've got. They need to show what they feel. They need to have a STYLE. If they want to make an Identity Shift they need to know who you’re shifting to.

I don't know if Surface will make sense, and let’s do a post launch analysis after the end of the campaign. The pre-market testing, and path breaking research and commitment of 15 million indicates their investment and commitment to be more Apple-esque edgy slippery, and sensational!
While surface tablets would launch in at least 8 markets, Windows 8 smartphones will be big in India, and perhaps Microsoft chases the tail of Apple-the dog, just in time. The video is a great way of educating consumers on a new idea, and a new identity for Microsoft as they stir the Apple secret sauce in a remote market- the market that's so remote from Cupertino!!
