Louis Vuitton and its class for the middle class.

For the brand starved and the money earning Indians, this has been one of the breakthroughs.
Launch of Louis Vuitton at Bombay. I happen to be part of the event and it was really well organized. The middle class in me and Anand really jumped to see the magnificence that luxury can bring. Louis Vuitton and its class. I was privy to one of the brand salience parties of Vuitton (of the Louis Vuitton name) that creates the best and the most beautful fashion leather products..... ( supposedly global market leader ) and it was an evening laced with the goodness of life chargrilled steaks and risottos , dom and moet and chandon champagne and silken napkins , soft lights, schmoozing and airkisses etc etc.Vintage cars parked closer to the venue which happened to be a private renaissance of a government official .L'officiel.

enamoured and amazingly awed i discovered the luxuries of being in the indian navy, a la vice admiral, who for every bit of service that they do to the nation ......get enough of service from the nation....large landscaped bungalows ; vintage cars and manicured garden to talk home about....

In a city of Bombay all this is luxury and it surpasses all benchmarks as some of the big Bollywood stars live in studio apartments with kitchen cabinets opening into the living room ....

and so if our men in the navy become host to the world's largest luxury brand that throws in a party as an expression of gratification to the high end clientele; it just reminds us of the macros within India that are so true:

rising number of millionares and billionaires
lifestyle and fashion industries growing really fast
average mumbai yuppie can afford a 2bhk
the spread of refined taste
life full of excesses
over Indulgence
high growth (GDP et al )
the fifth avenue and champs de elysees come to town
the haves get far from the have nots......
consumption becomes a function of choice ......
the line between comfort and luxury diffuses.........

For once i thought when i attended the party that its such a task to maintain high standards, the activity that goes behind maintaining vintage cars, the job of being classy is a tall order, it needs a lot of polish and refinement.... i met up with anand mahindra and he was pretty classy in the way he conducts himself compared to the social climbers who want to be seen and heard.

i guess being a name is a responsibility.that all have to share.... i need to live up to what i have come out to be for all who are watching me.....well this not me but i am talking first person trying to analyse the psyche of the MDs and the CEOs of big corporations : some of them dont flinch under the pressure ... leaders and brand names who are number 1.....are silently aggressive , make loads of statement and carry a lot of persona and attitude.

i dont know if i have gone tangential but cant think beyond.......

well luxury is a subjective term .....and perhaps what is luxury in bombay is just comfort somewhere else.......

i wonder if these are best of analogies in life.... but for all Vuittons, Chanels, Guccis, Pradas, and Armanis apparently Japan is where highest forms of luxuries are consumed.......

more to come....

ciao...
